Ash Barn

Ash Barn is still very much under construction and having been to site recently I can say it is going to look stunning.  Nexus involvement in this project is mainly architectural with a bit of on going guidance and consultancy.  As with most barn conversions there were the usual complexities in obtaining planning permission and Building Regulations approvals; environmental and ecological, land contamination, historical and heritage concerns, structural integrity and then how to bring the building up to standards for it to be fit for purpose without loosing the character.  To achieve this I called on my associate resources to provide the necessary information and specialists reports and put together a team of professionals suitable to deliver the holistic architectural package.

Due to the 'tunnel' like shape and form of the barn and the need to insulate the walls the internal space layout had to be carefully thought through and designed to ensure the use of space was maximised whilst retaining flow.  The views from the site are one of its features however they were limited by the small fenestration that is typical of agricultural buildings.  Whilst the conservation officer likes to see such features retained, the design addressed this issue by providing a glazed extension to one end of the barn which opens up panoramic views from the master bedroom and lounge.  If I'm honest I'm amazed the planning officer allowed this feature to be approved.
