The Old Barn

Really exciting project this one.  The brief was to replace the tired old conservatory with something spacious and actually usable.  The family enjoy their garden and like to entertain, it made perfect sense to create a space that links the building to the outside whilst adding a little bit of flare.  The concept was to create a modern juxtaposition design that allows the old building to remain in all its glory and the shiny new extension to show off a little without overpowering.  The result was a flat roof extension with a cantilever design that allows the aluminium sliding doors to open up fully creating floating corner effect.

My structural engineer came up with an excellent solution for the cantilever due to the awkwardness of the loading ratios. What we now call the 'Humber Bridge' adds really interesting and unique feature.  The project is currently being constructed but I am really looking forward to my invite to a BBQ once complete.  This is going to look really cool!
